Posted July 1, 2008 The X-60 will be T4 based. What you saw on Brian's truck was just Brian trying things. He does that. You can fit anything with time and a Dremel. Don't forget, what you see until the actual kit is in the box are just working prototypes. At times, you may see odd things on them. We try things to see what they will do. My X-60 has a rather interesting shock setup on it. It will never make production but it was fun seeing what it would do. http://www.rctech.net/forum/showpost.php?p=4592217&postcount=

Posted August 16, 2008 Here’s the latest on the X – 60: The development work is finished and we’re beginning to produce the molds. We must make two new tools, one for the chassis and one for the rear arms. C.A.D. for the arms was sent to the toolmaker a week ago and he says we’ll have production prototype arms to use at the Mod Nats. The chassis is almost entirely finished. Remember that with the mid motor the X - 60 handles much differently from a rear-motor truck, and chassis length became an issue. After trying out four different lengths, Paul & Brian finally got one they are both happy with and the first C.A.D. rolled out of Paul’s computer a few days ago. There is still one small final issue, but he’s confident it will be finished in another week. Unfortunately the toolmaker tells us it will be at least the week after the Mod Nats before we get production prototypes. Then of course there are a million “details,” like making additional runs of existing X – 6 parts that carry over, making some new machined parts, all the way to “little” things like the instruction manual, decals, and the box label. Our original target, established last November, was early fall, possibly mid-September. Right now it’s looking like release in mid-October, and slipping just one month from a pure guess at the beginning is not too bad. There are plenty of places to slip in the next three months… I want to take this moment to thank Brian Kinwald for all his help in this project. It has been his “baby” ever since the beginning. Brian and Paul have worked closely over the past seven months to make this happen. Special thanks are also due to Chris Krieg and his son Alex, who is one of our Team drivers. Chris has made most of the prototype chassies in his garage, along with some other parts, and his great work has been indispensable. Not a single Krieg-built chassis has broken. http://www.one-ten-rcforums.com/2wdrc/viewtopic.php?id=

Posted September 12, 2008 X Factory announces November 1 as the preliminary release date for the X – 60 Conversion. The new X – 60 will convert an AE T4 truck to mid-motor similar to the popular X – 6 buggy. These photos, taken at the recent ROAR National Championships, are detail shots of chief engineer Paul Sinclair’s New Math truck. Photos show several interesting aspects of the new truck: First, the mold for the rear control arms is done, and the Team is using production prototype arms. Since the beginning of testing, not a single graphite arm has failed, so this part of the X – 60 program is complete. Second, X Factory has decided to go with a carbon fiber battery strap instead of the current molded strap. The new strap will be similar to the one shown on Paul’s truck, but the X Factory logo will be cut into the CF rather than a stick-on decal. X Factory president Chazz said, “We are closing in on it, and the release date is looking more and more doable. All the decisions have been finalized and now it’s a matter of making the parts and giving them a final test to make sure they’re OK.” Chazz continued, “There are lots of potential stumbling blocks between now and release, but this project has been going more smoothly than anything we’ve done before, so I hope we can meet November first. “The chassis mold is about one quarter done, and we hope to have production prototype chassies before the end of this month. The Boyz will start testing immediately, of course, but that will allow us to move forward on many other things. We’ll finalize the body at that point, an entire new design from one of the top body manufacturers that you’re going to love. And we’ll begin writing the instruction manual, which is never a simple task.” Engineer Paul Sinclair added, “I’m converting Brian’s final hand-made CF shock tower into C.A.D. right now, and the battery strap will be finished right after that. So those items can go to the shop in Phoenix for full production and they should be ready by October 15th. We’ll be able to put full production arms, tower, and battery strap on the production prototype chassies.” Once the first bodies are completed, photos can be taken for the box label, and printing can begin. “We’ll be very busy the next 6 weeks, and everything must go like clockwork. Any hitch can delay the project. But I hope Brian Kinwald can run a full production X – 60, including the new body, at the Reedy Race in late October and to be able to ship the first trucks soon after returning to the office.” http://www.2wdrc.com/News/09-12-2008.htm

Posted September 27, 2008 The chassis will have a solid bottom to help keep the race track out, but there are thinner "cell slot" areas for NiMh cells to sit down in. Thanks for your confidence; we're pretty excited about the way this kit has come together and the performance the trucks have exhibited so far! Posted October 3, 2008 X–60 READY FOR PROTOTYPING X Factory announces the X – 60, an all-new mid-motor Conversion Kit for the AE T4 is almost ready for final testing. As you can see from the photos, the mold for the chassis is almost finished. The mold shop says the tool will be finished this weekend, and the first production prototypes will be made. All the X-Team drivers will begin testing molded chassies in the next 4-10 days depending on shipping times, with results forwarded to the home office in northwest Ohio by October 20. If all is well, full production of graphite chassis will begin immediately. The rear control arms are finished, and full production graphite arms will be shipped to X Factory around Oct. 10th. The Team will be using production prototype rear shock towers and battery straps about the end of next week, so those items should be able to go into production on the 20th also. Work has begun on the body mold, and we hope to have the prototype bodies about Oct 20 for photos and track testing. If everything fits here, looks good, and the downforce is correct, that part can go immediately into production too. X Factory president Chazz said, "Everything has to be correct – no problems of any sort with any part including fit and durability. If all is perfect, Brian will be using a full production prototype truck at the Reedy race, even including the new body. I will be there for that race, and on the Monday after will work on any production issues with the molding shop." "Super excited," said Brian. "It's always big when you're driving a brand new car, working to get the set-up just right, doing really little things here and there so it's perfect, working out any bugs. And this is so great because Chazz will be right there and we can discuss and work out every little detail, then see our work go straight to production!" Chazz added, "The 60 has been Brian's baby right from the start. It's been about 10 months since that first race in Milwaukee where his truck was soo fast. We had to put the project on hold a bit for the summer race season, which has made it take a bit longer than we wanted, but it's all happening now." Stay tuned for additional details as the Team begins its final work. You'll even see 60s in U.K.!!! Paul Sinclair's X – 60 Prototype at '08 Cactus Classic with AE GT2 body. Posted October 4, 2008 For those of you that have the X-60 prototype's, What electronics are you running? Namely what Motor's and esc's Do you run? I want to get 2, one for my racer mamba 4600 setup, and one for my High voltage low kv setup (1200kv/5s lipo) How has the tranny held up to the power of you're setup's The protos have been tested with quite a number of motor combinations from 17.5 stock to many of the current mod motors sizes from Novak and Trinity. The ESCs have been mostly Novak and LRP. The trannys have held up fine. Like anything, the more power you throw at them, the quicker they will wear out.
