PETIT RACE:

X - 6 Squared Makes Great Debut!

01-21-2009_05.jpg

Daniel Newman - The youngest X60 driver of Truck race

With great anticipation we awaited the start of the Petit RC race at Maritime Raceway in U.K. the weekend of Jan 16-18. Six of the eight European X-Team drivers would participate with their new cars, three with the brand new X - 6 Squared. The results were fantastic, as all six drivers finished in the top 20.

This great annual race would have triple A mains, and double B mains!

Buggy!

Saturday morning started off with a bang. In Buggy, Ellis Stafford’s Squared TQed round one by almost 5 seconds over the second place car. Bruno Heremans was 7th, Cyril Baldini 8th, both driving X – 6s, and Dan Greenwood 9th with Tom Cockerill 10th, both driving Squareds.

Round two saw Stafford TQ again, this time the only car on 16 laps, with Cockerill 5th, Heremans 7th, Baldini 9th, and Greenwood 11th. In the end, the six X-Team drivers qualified this way:

2nd Ellis Stafford

3rd Tom Cockerill

11th Bruno Heremans

12th Cyril Baldini

17th Dan Greenwood

20th Stefan Mesker

Cockerill won the first A main, with Stafford second. A2 saw Cockerill 2nd and Stafford 3rd, so after two races, Tom had the best score. After qualifying, Tom had commented, “Car was very good, could really push it without losing it and was turning quick laps.” Unfortunately Cockerill broke a control arm in A3 and finished second overall, with Ellis Stafford also on the podium in third.

Bruno Heremans won both races to lock up the B main in his first major race with the X – 6, while Cyril Baldini, driving his first-ever 2wd race finished second in the B. Very impressive! Dan Greenwood wound up 7th and Stefan Mesker 10th in the B.

01-21-2009_03.jpg01-21-2009_06.jpg

Truck!

In truck, Stafford drove his X – 60 to TQ, while Greenwood qualified 3rd and Cockerill 4th. Only eight trucks ran in this event, but four of them were X – 60s. After three A main races, Stafford wound up second, Greenwood 3rd, and Cockerill.

As part of the celebration, X Factory, along with D,M,S, Models (U.K.) and Select Model Shop (France) gave an X – 60 Conversion Kit to the youngest driver at the event. We’re not sure he knew what to make of the girls who presented his prize!

01-21-2009_09.jpg01-21-2009_05.jpg

4WD!

The 4WD event was held on Sunday and here again the X-Team drivers did well with their X – 5s. Round one saw Tom Cockerill 6th, Dan Greenwood 9th and Cyril Baldini, in his first race with the X – 5, 10th. Stafford was 4th in round two, with Greenwood 6th and Baldini 7th. Tom was just outside the top ten at 11th.

Round 3 finished with the X–Team 6 through 8, Stafford-Greenwood-Baldini and Cockerill again 11th. Tom came back to take 5th in round four, with the rest of the Team 7-8-9. So there were four X – 5s in the A main!

5th Tom Cockerill -- on fire all weekend!

7th Ellis Stafford

8th Dan Greenwood

9th Cyril Baldini -- French 4WD ace in his first big race for the X-Team.

A1 was an X Factory lock on 5-6-7 with the order Stafford, Cockerill, Greenwood. Ellis set the fastest lap of that race. In A2 the Team was 5-6-7 again, but this time Greenwood, Baldini, Stafford, with Ellis and Cyril having a good race for the last few minutes. A3 saw Ellis 6th and the others 8-9-10.

So Stafford finished 6th, Greenwood 7th, Cockerill 9th, and Baldini 10th. What a great finish with a car that’s at its best on outdoor dirt tracks!

CLOSE-UP OF NEW X – 6 SQUARED CHASSIS

X Factory has sent us this close-up photo of their new X – 6 Squared chassis showing several more refinements:

Battery slots no longer go completely through the chassis. Adds strength and LiPo drivers do not need the slots, Interior of the car stays cleaner.

Two servo mounting positions, forward and back allows drivers to move that heavy component for tuning.

Bottom covers from original X – 6 eliminated, replaced with brass bushings to hold front of rear hinge pins. Saves a step in assembly and eliminates four steel screws to save weight.

Large center stiffening brace replaced by two smaller braces to produce better molding conditions. Stronger design saves weight – a double win!

Chassis sides angled up for better ground clearance in corners.

Choice of two antenna mount positions show clearly here.

Fewer parts + fewer screws = Newest Math!!!

Chief Engineer Paul Sinclair reported, "We've worked to make this car easier to work on and higher quality too. Our X – 60 truck has been very successful, with great reviews from the customers for finish and quality, so we have carried most of the great new features from the 60 over now into the X – 6 Squared. And as a driver I can tell you it is sooo dialed."

X Factory president Chazz added, "There have been a few small delays, but nothing like what we experienced with the 60. The instruction manual and box label will go to the printer on Monday Feb 2 and if all goes well the first X – 6 Squared Kits will be headed to the Distributor Family next Friday. Customers will always get their X – 6 Squared fastest by purchasing from one of our fine dealers all over the world."

“We are shipping the new X – 6 Squared Kits to our distributors now,” said X Factory president Chazz. “The first Kits were shipped Friday, and more went out Saturday Feb 14, so we’re about half-way through that. It’s President’s Day on Monday in the U.S. and we can’t ship anything, but we’ll be packing boxes all day so distributor orders will finish Tuesday afternoon. Then we’ll go right into shipping the dealers. Look for the distinctive red X – 6 Squared box next to the blue X – 60 box at your hobby store very soon.

4543-SquaredBoxnTowel.jpg

“The X – 6 Squared is the biggest product launch we’ve ever had at X Factory. We have almost as many Kits pre-sold to the distributor and dealer Family as we sold in the entire year 2007,” Chazz continued. “The Squared will go up on our web site for retail sales late this week. Everybody will be able to get their Squared most quickly through their local hobby store.”

U.K. National Champion Ellis Stafford added, “The X – 6 Squared improves quality and makes many refinements in the original car while retaining all the great features of the original X - 6. For instance, customers have asked us to make the rear arms reversible, so we designed an all-new arm with the bonus of greatly improved quality. We kept the geometry identical to the original car, so that meant we must change the shock tower. When we did that, we decided to slightly increase the up-travel – otherwise the geometry is identical – and, here’s the cool part, Team Manager and Chief Engineer Paul Sinclair was able to make the new tower dip down a bit more in the centre to better match the wing.”

Belgian star Bruno “Elvo” Heremans commented, “The big thing for X Factory was to be certain that all the new parts fit the original car. You’ll want the whole Squared Kit because it includes the new one-piece chassis with all the improvements and the new body, but if a driver wishes he can just get a set of arms and a shock tower. They will bolt right on the original X – 6 and then you’d have better quality reversible arms.”

4543-SquaredCar.jpg

Chief Engineer Paul Sinclair added, "Just like the truck, the X – 6 Squared represents a huge step forward for X Factory. The new car is simpler, higher quality, and retains all the on-track characteristics of the great original X – 6. The Squared is so much quicker and easier to build and work on."

Chazz added, “You’ll never believe the problems we face getting a new product into distribution. If we could design the car, build some prototypes, race them, and then the Kits would magically jump onto the dealers’ shelves, this business would be so simple! We wrote the instruction manual and took it to the printer. They printed one as a proof and we checked it over – ‘Looks good, make us a thousand.’ On Feb 10th they delivered 1,000 manuals, every one missing the Front End Installation section! Luckily we caught it and they were able to deliver 250 correct ones on Friday the 13th. We got the rest on Monday. Now who would expect that the launch of an R/C race car would be held up by a printing problem?”

The new X – 6 Squared is here! Now available for retail sales at fine hobby stores everywhere and on
The X – 6 Squared converts a B4 to mid motor configuration for improved cornering, jumping, and quicker in the bumps.

The Kit includes all the great features first seen on our X – 60 truck plus some buggy-only improvements too. Still retains the great on-track characteristics of the original X – 6. Much improved quality and fit in all parts, plus easier to assemble and work on. Here’s a partial list of the improvements:

· NEW one-piece molded graphite chassis.

· Far better molding quality.

· Chassis made for LiPo but accepts cells.

· Distinctive NEW X Factory logo carbon fiber battery strap.

· NEW rear control arms are reversible – fit either side of car and far better molding quality.

· NEW simplified servo mounting with stock AE mounts.

· Two servo mounting positions for perfect weight placement.

· REVISED body from J Concepts for that great “Squared” look.

· Original body fits Squared car, Squared body fits original car.

· NEW rear hinge pin mounting system with brass bushings eliminates the bottom covers.

· One-piece chassis eliminates nose piece, threaded inserts, and 4 bolts. Saves weight and assembly time.

· AE servo mounting system eliminates two bolts and a part. Again, saves weight and time.

· NEW rear shock tower keeps identical suspension geometry but gives more uptravel. Tower remains extra thick 4 mm. carbon fiber.

· Rear tower now more closely follows shape of wing.

· NEW X – 6 Squared decals included in every K 019 Kit.

· NEW flatter, smoother chassis with upswept sides for better ground clearance in corners and easier jump landings.

· NEW easier access to lower motor mount screw.

The big thing you’ll notice is how easy this car is to build and absolute top quality of all the new parts. Most experienced hobbyists will go from a running B4 to a running X – 6 Squared in about two hours. – simple and easy, but So much faster.

We kept all the great handling in corners, all the jumping ability and controllability in the air, and super speed through bumps. The geometry is identical, and many parts are interchangeable. But the X – 6 Squared is so much better we had to bring it to you, and you gotta get one. Brian KInwald said it best: “The X – 6 Squared is cheating.”
