Way back in 2006 X Factory introduced the New Math, the revolutionary mid-motor X – 6. It was the first mass-produced molded chassis mid-motor buggy and it promptly won National Championships all over the world, including U.K. and France. Three years later, in 2009, X Factory UpGraded the car by releasing the X – 6 Squared, and that car has won more than a dozen National Championships in countries from Finland to Australia.

Get ready for Higher Math! The new X – 6 Cubed will be on store shelves in 8 – 10 weeks! Final testing is underway now with the entire X Factory U.K. Team testing final astro& grass set-ups while U.S. drivers as well as the European Team will soon be driving pre-production Higher Math on many different dirt tracks.

Chief Engineer Paul Sinclair said, “We have been testing many different concepts to UpGrade the X – 6 Squared for over two months now. Team drivers have tested various chassis lengths and materials as well as electronics placement and weight distribution, and we are pretty much in agreement now. So it’s time for final testing and set-up work with pre-production cars. In about two weeks we’ll start writing the instructions, and then we’ll be ready to go.”

“Initial testing has proven the Cubed to be a significant improvement over the Squared. Principally it jumps and lands better,” Sinclair continued. Those with sharp eyes will see the new X – 6 Cubed on various tracks in U.K. this weekend and in the U.S. and Europe soon after.

Quelques précisions de Darren Boyle, DMS-Racing, l'importateur Anglais de Xfactory :

OK official answers that I can release at this point....

The X6 Cubed will indeed be a "Conversion Kit", there are no plans at present to make this as an Entire Car at present.

The Conversion kit will allow you to convert any Associated B4/B4.1/B4.2 kit (or C4.1 for that matter) and will includes items such as the diff outdrives and bearings that are required for the newer AE cars...

There will also be an Upgrade Kit to allow all existing X6 or X6 Squared owners to upgrade to the Cubed spec. This kit will include all items that are different from the older models to the new one...

Price.. nothing to report at present, but we are all working as hard as possible to make it as affordable as we can without comprimising anything along the way.

Capture the spirit of the previuos X6's, most definately, this car will retain all of those same characteristics you mention...

The car will still be imperial sadly, to allow existing XF parts and AE parts to have compatability.

All other spec questions have been left unawnswered deliberately, you will have to continue to speculate on those sadly for now, some of those questions may be answered if you get to see one of the prototypes running over the next few days.......

LiveRC: Paul, first of all thank you for taking time out with us to talk about the new X-6 Cubed. Let's start by talking about what are the major advancements you've made going from the stock B4 to the X6, to the X6 Squared, and now to the X6 Cubed?

Paul: Thanks for asking Mike; it's always a pleasure to talk with (and watch races on!) LiveRC. The major change from a B4 to an X-6, any version, is of course the mid-motor design. We firmly believe in the physics advantage that mid-motor offers: for any given tire, a shorter moment of inertia (physics-speak for the mass of the car being more centralized) allows you to carry more velocity around the corner. We've also found our cars are more stable when the going gets rough, and easier to drift like a 4-wheeler instead of spinning out. Beyond the motor placement change, though, there are more subtle differences - the rear pivot and suspension, the transmission, the body and wing - which help maximize the car's performance. You can't just take a rear-motor car, flip the transmission around, and expect to win.

As to the evolution of the X - 6, it's been a process of growth that has in many ways mirrored X Factory's own. The original car was conceived as I entered college, and the CAD was actually drawn by a generic tool and die shop with lots of input and guidance from Chazz. The Squared's chassis was the first major project I directly designed - drawn during my first year of graduate school - and was produced by a US machine shop with many years' experience making RC car parts. The Squared was much the same car as the original on the track, but was more durable, simpler, easier to build, and so on. The Cubed, now, is the result of 4+ years of racing and testing with the older cars. There has been so much learned along the way, and so many changes in our equipment, that an overhaul of the buggy is due. This is not an entirely new car, but another significant improvement on the X - 6.

LiveRC: Clearly there are some major differences between the Squared and the Cubed buggy, which do you feel is most beneficial to racers?

Paul: This sounds like a cop-out, but there are so many improvements it's hard to pick one. The chassis is longer for increased stability and consistency. At the same time it's narrower and much lighter. The Cubed can handle a wider variety of batteries and battery arrangements, and includes from the box things which required hop ups or custom-modification on the Squared. A quote from one long-time driver's early testing: "Think of every part of a car's characteristics you could comment on: balance, flight, jumping, responsiveness, bump handling, turn in, stability, acceleration, cornering speed; in testing so far, EVERY single aspect is better than what we had with the Squared. Add to that, the car is now slimmer, longer, and looks stunning. From what I have seen and now driven, the Cubed is simply better.

"We are now pretty confident of the chassis material, and even have the layout pretty much down. Only issues now are precise servo placement and a question of motor height. Next up is doing the body and getting parts ordered.

If within the next 8 days we find some reason for major changes then things will get put on hold. But for now, it's Damn The Torpedoes, Full Speed Ahead.

We are looking now at late April or early May."
