As you can see, we have substantially changed the X - 6 nose piece to make it stronger and more durable. The new part is a direct replacement for the old piece. However, not only have we added material all over the part, but we have changed to a new material and molded it at a new shop with a different press and new molding techniques. The new part retains all the stiffness of the older pieces, but is spectacularly more durable. We tested the part in the street by repeatedly running it into the curb full punched... several times. We changed to another new nose piece, and repeated the process. And a third. We wore out two bumpers, broke two bulkheads, a front control arm, and the momentum of the batteries broke two battery posts. Paul's Factory Team blue front hinge pin brace is a mess, but all three nose pieces are just fine. In fact, the third nose piece has continued running through several test days and club races with no problems whatever. This is the first of many new X Factory parts coming this summer. We have spent the last two weeks in the L.A. area working with a new molding shop. We have already made several exciting new parts and there are lots more parts on the drawing boards. Keep your eyes peeled on the websites for updates and information throughout the summer. The new part retains the same part number, but rest assured that the new nose pieces are now included in all X - 6 kits and every part #1002 sold. We are actually scrapping about 100 old nose pieces because we know the new part is so much better." http://www.2wdrc.com/index.htm
Posted July 1, 2007 "These are the parts Chris/Dan,myself and the rest of the team have been testing for a good while now and the camber link part is a really good item to get and we pretty much use the part everywhere now. The motor support is just better as it means it doesn't come loose!!" Rear Camber Link Mod "On a few tracks I noticed that I had a little push on power and the rear was rolling a little. I wanted to shorten the rear camber link, but I also really wanted to keep the ability to rais and lower the height of the ballstud. And here it is, looking awesome too! We let the rest of the Team have sets and asked if they thought it worked. The resounding answer was "YES! " Most of us run them all the time now. They give the X - 6 more steering while at the same time allowing the rear to square up faster from the turn and therefore produce more drive...can it get any better?!?!" E. Stafford Aluminum Motor Plate Brace "Having run the car a few times I noticed that the screw was working loose due to the plastic compressing and then springing back. There was some unwanted flex going on with the part…so out came the drawing package!! Having spoken to the rest of the team the result was the metal brace seenhere: stronger in flex, the threads from the bottom won't strip out, and of course looks super cool in the blue!!"
Posted August 2, 2007 ...Wins A-3, Finishes Second Overall Because HPI does not make a 2WD buggy, the team drivers can use any car they choose when racing that class. Atsushi Hara, former on-road world champion, chose the X Factory X – 6 for the recent Hot Rod Hobby Shoot-Out with impressive results. “The car is so easy to drive,” said Hara several times during practice and qualifying. “I like a car that is easy to drive. I can push it hard to achieve a good result.” And that’s just what he did, with lap times among the very best for every round. Hara used a box-stock X – 6 with no prototype parts. For Thursday’s practice and the first two rounds of qualifying on Friday, Atsushi used a plain yellow body while his own shell was being painted and overnighted to the track. Because he had never driven an X – 6 before, Hara’s starting set-up was similar to those of most B4 drivers, and Atsushi liked The New Math right from the beginning. Because he is sponsored by HPI, not X Factory, Hara concentrated on his D4 during most of practice, running the X – 6 just twice on Thursday. So the third battery pack ever in an X – 6 for Atsushi was round 1 of qualifying on Friday morning against one of the most talented fields that will assemble anywhere in the world this year. Every top U.S. driver was there. Yokomo sent Masami Hirosaka and Billy Easton plus several other Japanese drivers. Kyosho was represented by Team Manager Gil Losi Jr with Mark Pavidis and several engineers from Japan. In that impressive field, on only his third battery pack ever in the X – 6, Atsushi Hara placed third in round one with a 16/5:19 run that included 11 laps in the 19s and four more in the 20s. Fast lap was 19.60. Hara improved to 16/5:17 Friday afternoon in round 2 with a fast lap of 19.08, but the rest of the field improved too and this great run was a throw-out for Atsushi! On Saturday morning, with his own body on the car, Hara had one bad lap for another throw-out time (15/5:04) but he turned ten 19-sec laps and four 20s with a fast lap of 19.2. On only his sixth battery pack in an X – 6, Atsushi really turned it on in H-4 with a 16/5:17 good for second in the round! He also had the second-fastest lap of the round, a 19.05 just .03 sec behind other drivers who had been driving their cars for many years. Hara’s slowest lap in this round was a 20.7! So Hara’s two qualifiers to count were a 2 and a 3, good for fourth on Sunday’s A main grid. In A – 1 Atsushi’s X – 6 turned in the fastest lap of the race, a 19.0, as well as a 19.1 that was the fourth-fastest lap, but he was involved in several early pile-ups and had to fight his way up to seventh from tenth on lap 2. Hara finished third in A – 2, a scant 4/10ths sec behind Ryan Maifield. A first-lap crash dropped Atsushi to sixth, but he turned a very consistent string of 13 straight 19-sec laps to climb back through the field, challenging Maifield at the end. Atsushi kept The New Math out of first-lap trouble, finishing the first lap of A – 3 in third place. He passed Ryan Maifield for second place on lap 7 and set out to catch Cavalieri, turning an 18.9 along the way. Hara took over the race lead on lap 12 and finished with almost a 2-second lead. The win in A – 3, combined with Hara’s third in A – 2, put Atsushi and his X – 6 second in the final standings.. A superb result considering he put a box-stock X – 6 on the track he had never driven before. It must be easy to drive indeed!
